HORTICULTURAL HALL The original Gen Con was held at Horticultural Hall in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin before moving to UW-Parkside, MECCA in Milwaukee, and finally Indiana Convention Center. For the 50th Anniversary, Lucas Oil Field Stadium housed a replica front of this historic original gathering spot - complete with a dedication to the man himself, Gary Gygax. Plus, visitors could stare at artifacts in various glass cases throughout a museum. ...don't mind the claw marks on the glass... The events I ran with Don Bingle's Paragons from the Past events were all held right here. #LUCKY ...these pictures were not a result of me casing the joint... |

ANCIENT SCROLLS Check out these ancient programs from yesteryear - I totally remember the classic shield logo from the lower right picture because... I MADE A TERRIBLE COLLAGE OUT OF A 1995 PROGRAM THAT HANGS IN MY DAD'S COTTAGE AT LAKE GENEVA (note: collage was rejected from artifacts exhibit). The hand drawn map on the program from the lower left is what we are missing from the modern world of google maps. |

| ANCIENT SWAG A prototype for Dungeon?!? WHAAAT!!??!! MIND BLOWN. The level of detail is unreaal. Skeletons in the closet space, spider webs, demonic faces... sign me up! Original Pokémon cards. Keep in mind that Original Pikachu is not the Pikachu we know today. Today, Pikachu is more athletic and svelte. And, the most coveted card on the playground... Charizard. |

IN MILWAUKEE? My first Gen Con was in Milwaukee with many of my (RPGA) events taking place in the MECCA Arena. Ever since Gen Con moved to Indy, it has never felt like Gen Con. I always felt like maybe I was at Origins or the tabletop section of a PAX or Comic Con... When I walked into the Lucas Oil Stadium carrying my D&D books, miniatures, and map and looked up... this was the first time I felt like it was really Gen Con again. Are there people mustering in the seats for the D&D Open or their Paranoia event? No... just people eating lunch. But this is truly Gen Con. Finally. |
